Short answer

A mooring ball in the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park costs BSD 27.27 a day for a private boat under 40 feet and BSD 172.73 for 120 to 150 feet, plus 10% VAT1. Anchoring costs BSD 0.45 per foot a day under 90 feet1. You pay through the Trust's ParkPay page after you are on a mooring, because the park takes no reservations1.

Fee calculator

Fees change. Confirm every amount on ParkPay and with Bahamas Customs before you pay. Park fees here cover moorings only, not anchoring, camping, charter or landing fees. Park amounts are in BSD and Customs amounts in USD, so they are totalled separately.

Every boat that stops inside the park pays a daily fee to the Bahamas National Trust, which runs the Exuma Cays Land & Sea Park. Rates depend on whether you sail a private or a charter boat, how long the boat is, and whether you pick up a ball or drop the hook.

Mooring fees by boat length

The Trust prices moorings by length overall, in Bahamian dollars (BSD), per day1. The prices below are before the 10% VAT the Trust adds at checkout; the right-hand column shows the total with VAT1.

Boat length Private boat, per day Charter boat, per day Private, with 10% VAT
Up to 39’11” BSD 27.27 BSD 27.27 BSD 30.001
40’ to 49’11” BSD 36.36 BSD 36.36 BSD 40.001
50’ to 59’11” BSD 45.45 BSD 45.45 BSD 50.001
60’ to 69’11” BSD 72.73 BSD 72.73 BSD 80.001
70’ to 89’11” BSD 109.09 BSD 104.55 BSD 120.001
90’ to 119’ BSD 136.36 BSD 136.36 BSD 150.001
120’ to 150’ BSD 172.73 BSD 172.73 BSD 190.001

The ParkPay page sets one rate per length band, with no separate price for each mooring field, so a 45-foot catamaran pays BSD 36.36 a day plus VAT on any park ball1. For how the fields fill and how to get a ball, see how moorings work in Exuma Park.

Anchoring fees

Anchoring is cheaper than a mooring for small boats and is charged per foot of length, per day1.

Boat length Per foot, per day Example
Under 90 feet BSD 0.45 + VAT 40 ft boat: BSD 18.00 + VAT1
90 feet and above BSD 0.91 + VAT 100 ft boat: BSD 91.00 + VAT1

Anchoring is not permitted in the mooring fields, on coral reefs and certain other designated areas within Exuma Park4.

All boats, dinghies and jet skis included, must run at idle speed in any mooring field or anchorage4. The anchoring rules page covers where you can and cannot drop the hook.

Charter boats and day tours

Charter vessels pay the mooring or anchoring rate above plus BSD 14.00 per person per day1. On the ParkPay page that surcharge appears as BSD 12.73 per additional person, before VAT1. Crew do not count on the charter-vessel products1.

Charter boats running day tours pay a landing fee for each guest1:

Landing Fee per person, before VAT
Warderick Wells, with a guided tour BSD 12.731
Any other park location BSD 6.361

If you join a speedboat tour from Nassau or Staniel Cay, ask whether the price you are quoted includes park landing fees; our Nassau day trip guide lists what to ask.

Annual passes

Boats that spend long seasons in the park can buy an annual pass. The Trust sells three, priced per year1:

Pass Price per year What it covers
Science & Research vessel $12,545 All landing fees and moorings1
Private vessel $18,800 Landing fees, beach set-ups, preferred moorings1
Charter vessel $22,560 Landing fees, beach set-ups, preferred moorings1

At the 40 to 49 foot daily rate of BSD 36.361, the private pass equals about 517 days on a ball before VAT.

Camping and kayaking

Camping in the park needs a permit, which costs $250 and is valid for up to 10 days4. On top of the permit, campers and kayakers pay a daily user fee of $25.00 per person per day4.

Camping is only allowed at Hawksbill, Warderick Wells and O’Briens4.

Tell the park headquarters at least two weeks before the date you plan to camp, so your stay does not clash with other park users4. Tents go on the beaches only, and stoves are for cooking only: open fires and fireworks are banned throughout the park4.

How to pay

You pay online through the Trust’s ParkPay page or app, choosing the product that matches your boat type and length1. Pay after you have secured a mooring ball: the park does not accept reservations, and paying in advance does not hold a ball1. VAT of 10% has applied to all marine and park fees since 1 January 20221.

Questions go to the park office on VHF channel 09, calling “Exuma Park”2. The office keeps hours of 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to noon on Sunday2. The office sits on a small, remote island, so a call can take time to get through2.

Fees outside the park

Park fees cover only the park. Before you reach the Exumas you clear into the Bahamas and buy a cruising permit from Bahamas Customs, priced by boat length and term3. The cruising permit guide has the full table by length and term. Marinas outside the park, such as those at Staniel Cay or Highbourne Cay, set their own dockage rates.

Fees change. Check the Trust’s ParkPay page on the day you pay, and read the park rules and no-take zone guide before you arrive: the Trust can fine poachers and confiscate their boats4.

Questions people ask

Can you reserve a mooring in Exuma Park?

No. The Bahamas National Trust takes no mooring reservations, and paying in advance does not hold a ball for you1. Get a mooring first, then pay for the nights you use.

Do I pay to anchor in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park?

Yes. Private boats under 90 feet pay BSD 0.45 per foot per day to anchor, and boats of 90 feet or more pay BSD 0.91 per foot, with 10% VAT on top1. Anchoring is not allowed inside the mooring fields or on coral reefs4.

How much does a mooring ball cost at Warderick Wells?

The park charges by boat length, not by mooring field. A 40 to 49 foot private boat pays BSD 36.36 a day before VAT, which comes to BSD 40.00 with the 10% VAT1.

Is there an extra fee for charter boats?

Yes. Charter vessels pay the same mooring or anchoring rate plus BSD 14.00 per person per day, quoted by the Trust as BSD 12.73 before VAT1.

Do I still need a Bahamas cruising permit?

Yes. Park fees are separate from the cruising permit you buy from Bahamas Customs when you clear into the country. Customs prices the permit by boat length and by how long you stay3; see the cruising permit guide for the table.
